Description
Black and white photograph of Hawthorne Elementary School, rear and side elevations. Built in 1898 and named for Nathaniel Hawthorne, the school was located at 1126 Waverly Avenue. The school was added to a number of times over the years and an annex was erected next to the school in 1909. In 1962, plans for a new school began and the new buildings were completed in 1964. The old Hawthorne school was razed in 1977 and in 2002 the school's name was changed to Caruthers.
