Kansas City, Kansas--Then and Now

KSCOLL_PC_WashingtonBlvd_01.jpg

This exhibit documents some of the changes in Kansas City, Kansas’s built environment over the last century. It juxtaposes photographs from the Kansas Room Special Collections, with photographs taken at the exact same locations in 2019. KCK experienced a building boom in the 1880s. After consolidation, the population had grown to over 12,000 residents.

Today, Kansas City, Kansas has grown to more than 150,000 residents and much has changed. Some areas are unchanged, with buildings appearing much as they did 100 years ago. Other sites have been altered significantly with old structures demolished and new buildings erected in their place.
